MRC Runners Take on Ultra Wales 50

Members of MRC delivered a series of outstanding performances at the 2026 Ultra Wales 50, one of the toughest mountain and trail races on the UK ultra-running calendar.

The 51-mile event, organised by GB Ultras, starts and finishes at Coed-y-Brenin and takes runners through some of the most spectacular terrain in Southern Snowdonia. The route includes 2,898 metres of ascent, with iconic sections around Cadair Idris, Rhinog Fach, Dolgellau, the Barmouth estuary and Coed-y-Brenin forest.

Leading the club home was our fell captain Tristan Evans, who produced a superb run to finish seventh overall in 10:06:20. Gareth Hughes also completed the demanding course in an excellent 11:43:25, while Simon and Lowri Newman crossed the finish line together in 12:55:15.

Llion Jones finished strongly in 13:46:28, followed by Sarah Edwards, who completed the race in 14:34:38. Juliet Edwards also showed tremendous determination, but was unfortunately forced to withdraw due to injury and sickness.

With six checkpoints, live GPS tracking and a 20-hour cut-off, Ultra Wales is designed to push runners to their limits. The MRC performances reflected months of training, resilience and team spirit across a challenging day in the Welsh mountains.
